The Dumb Waiter
The English Theatre of Rome & Gaby Ford present one of Harold Pinter's finest plays...
THE DUMB WAITER Directed by and with Douglas Dean Featuring Daniel Connolly
First performed in 1960, The Dumb Waiter is widely regarded as one of the finest of Pinter's early works, and features his trademark blend of profound, occasionally absurd comedy and pathos. Two men wait in the basement of an abandoned cafe. As they pass their time reading newspapers, and bickering over mundane concerns, it becomes clear that they might not be alone...
The Dumb Waiter sees the return to the stage of both Daniel Roy Connelly and Douglas Dean. Connelly directed our acclaimed 2014 production of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler, which featured Dean, and the compliment was returned a year later when Dean directed Bryony Lavery's hard-hitting Frozen, with Connelly in a starring role. This, however, is the first time they have worked together onstage.
The play is performed without an intermission and runs 55 minutes.
